I love food and food photography. In the past few weeks, I decided to step it up a notch and create food worlds. Even though if I was playing a video game, I feel like I’m at level 0, creating these food worlds has been a real joy. It combines three loves – food, photography and fantasy. It just can’t get any better than that!
My First Try
I made about three and a half dozen cookies to make the mountain in the background. I used all purpose flour for the sand, egg shells for the rocks, chocolate chips to make the little campfire enclosure and carrots for the fire. What you may not be able to see is the the Stormtrooper sits on a blanket of dried seaweed and pillow of lettuce.
The idea just popped into my head. At first I thought it would be too complicated to do. Then I decided to just do it anyways and see where it went.
I learned a lot. I learned that a big photo requires great detail. I learned that I need to make my own backgrounds. I studied the work of Carl Warner. His stuff is great, but I want my backgrounds to look more real. So instead of needing a background, I had another cookie photo in mind but with a different perspective and a much smaller, more intimate photo.
Okay, I still need backgrounds. And my original idea of creating a smaller cookie mountain didn’t work but I think the cookie canyon idea works. This was only two batches of snickerdoodle cookies, I also added some cinnamon sticks. The floor is cream cheese frosting with cinnamon sprinkled on top of it.
I can’t wait to see where this new kind of food photography takes me! Have a great weekend everyone!
