As part of my research into food photography, I decided to check out food blogs. One I was particularly drawn to was Local Milk. Not just because Saveur voted the blog for best photos in 2014, but because she talked about the concept of living slow, something I want to do and have been aching to do for a long time now. So as of today, I’m going to live slow.
Well, at least I’m trying. It means probably different things to different people. To me, a part of it’s about spending time on things that matter most to me and spending time beautifully and slowly doing those things, like taking a walk with Jack.
If you really want to take a walk with Jack, it has to be slow so that he can sniff everything and pee on whatever bush another dog has peed on. I never did have the heart to go all Cesar Millan on him and make him focus on the walk. Instead, I’ve started enjoying our walks more – listening to the different bird calls, trying to identify the birds, and the other day we watched the neighborhood transform from evening to night. It’s about finding beauty in the mundane and everyday life.
I say I’m going to cook and this time I really mean to cook. Maybe I’ll learn to make kimchee from scratch. I don’t know but I’m going to try to take the time to do these recipes right, slow and with the best ingredients. It doesn’t seem worth it to do it any other way. My next recipe is a weeknight recipe so it won’t take a long time, but I still need to try my darnedest to make the photos, the recipe, everything about it the best I can do. Here is a sneak peak:
Anyways, I guess what I’m saying is that I want quality over quantity in my life. And the only way to do that is to slow down.
