“Oh Penelope, these are so good,” said King Michael, as he stuffed another blueberry muffin in his mouth. “I’m so glad you’re back.”
“Me too your majesty,” replied Penelope. ” Now about the prisoner…” she began.
“Of course she’s released,” replied King Michael. Now that you told me she helped you escape the ruffians, I know Shirley is no traitor.”
“You,” said King Michael to one of the guards. The guard approached. “Go release Shirley from prison.” The guard bowed and walked out of the room.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going your Majesty,” said Penelope. “I have to prepare for tonight’s dinner.”
“Of course my dear,” replied King Michael. “I can’t wait for dessert tonight!”
Penelope left the throne room. She turned a corner and ran smack into a group of guards. They immediately seized her.
“What are you doing?” Penelope cried. “Let go of me!”
“I don’t think so Penelope,” said a voice. The guards parted and Penelope saw the chamberlain.
“You see, these are not palace guards, they are Islander guards dressed like palace guards and they only listen to me.”
“What are you going to do with me?” Penelope asked.
“Take you to King Lee of course,” replied the chamberlain.
“You’re a traitor!” said Penelope. “Why?”
The chamberlain shrugged his shoulders. “Why not?” he replied. “King Lee paid me handsomely.”
“Now let’s go,” said the chamberlain to the guards. “We need to get out of here before anyone notices she’s missing.” One of the guards gagged and tied her hands and feet. Then they left the palace through a back entrance.
